Clown Pepa Plana will show off her red nose in a Cirque du Soleil production

Catalan clown Pepa Plana will wear her red nose in the new Cirque du Soleil show that will premiere in Montreal (Canada) in April 2012, according to the artist.

Plana commented that those responsible for the Canadian circus contacted her in February and invited her to visit their facilities and talk about the new project, of which she has only been able to say that, together with another clown, she will act as the central figure.

For the artist, it was “a big surprise” to receive the call from this company, because he had never participated in any of their “castings” or had any contact with them. However, those responsible for Soleil knew his work and knew how he moved on stage.

After several months of negotiations, on the 29th the two parties signed a contract, lasting a year and a half, which implies that Plana will travel to the company’s headquarters this coming autumn for a few days.

Next January, the clown will set up shop at the circus headquarters and begin rehearsals for the new show, which will be performed in a large tent and will tour around the world.

Pepa Plana would be very excited to be able to perform in Spain, but she recalled that in some cases Cirque du Soleil has taken more than eight years to reach the Iberian Peninsula, and “I have only signed for a year and a half.”

Asked about her feelings, she admitted that she is very excited to be able to join “a large machine, which can move around 500 people on tour, in front of audiences that exceed 2,000 spectators.”

Meanwhile, Plana will continue to tour Catalonia with performances of the five shows he currently has on the bill: ‘Èxode’, ‘Penèlope’, ‘L’atzar’, ‘Giulietta’ and ‘De Pe a Pa’.
